Health and a longer life

October 13, 2016

Suppose someone walked up to you and said "I have a way for you to live a longer more healthy life, can I tell you about that?" What would you say.

There are studies that indicate that when a person eats more fiber in their diets tend to have less depression, dementia, respiratory problems, cancer, heart disease, and stroke. People who eat more fiber are 80% more likely to be alive ten years later when the people were re-surveyed for a follow-up for the study.

Most Americans only eat 10 to 15 grams of fiber per day. The recommendation for fiber is 25 to 35 grams per day.

I talk about some simple ways to increase fiber in my new YouTube video.

Two key things to focus on when you decide that you want to increase your fiber. First, make the changes gradually. Secondly, make sure you drink enough water. Usually a good amount to aim for is eight 8-ounce glasses of water per day.

It sounds like the quality of life as a person ages is improved by a higher fiber diet. So is it time to make the change?
