Ways to improve your fertility outcomes


It is of vital importance that you and your partner are in the best health 3 to 4 months prior to making a baby.


The basics of pregnancy

  • the woman's egg is fertilized by sperm

It is not just about the woman's health before pregnancy

  • The chances of a pregnancy happening is improved when both the egg and sperm are both as healthy as possible


Factors that can impair conception/pregnancy - impair your cells - the egg and the sperm


Oxidative Stress


Maybe your doctor hasn't mentioned oxidative stress as a factor that makes it difficult for you to become pregnant.


Oxidative stress happens when there is an imbalance between free radicals and the antioxidants in your body.


Both the egg and the sperm are susceptible to being damaged by free radicals. If this becomes a long term condition in the body, your ability to become pregnant can be affected.

  • For women - a reduction in egg quality

  • For men - a potential for a reduction in sperm count, sperm motility, damage to sperm DNA

For women, as you get older, you are more likely to have more oxidative stress from:

  • exposure to pollution

  • from a not so healthy diet

  • And other factors

The older we get, the more difficult it is to become pregnant


Important facts to know for fertility (and for pregnancy to happen) is:

The egg and sperm can be healthier through good nutrition.

  • This means eating whole foods - lots of vegetables, fruits, whole grains,

  • Instead of restaurant meals, cooking meals at home

  • Not skipping meals

  • Reducing and eliminating sugar

  • Eliminate alcohol and recreational drugs

Antioxidants have been shown to be beneficial for women over the age of 35


The way to do this can be in a couple of different ways

  • Eating a diet that is rich in antioxidant type foods

  • Taking antioxidant supplements

Co Enzyme Q10 - can be taken to optimize egg health
