Why an Easy Brown Rice Vegetable Bowl?


When it comes to making a meal, bowl meals are all the rage.

  • They are what I call "Easy Peasy" to make

  • They are versatile in the ingredients you can make them with

  • They are an inexpensive way to make a meal

  • Meals can be made in advance

Core ingredients for a bowl meal

This recipe for an easy brown rice with vegetables is only one variation on grain bowl you can make.

Include whole grains

Sorghum

Quinoa

Brown rice

Wild rice - is a grass, not a rice

Corn

Farro, barley, or freekah

Amaranth, millet, or oats

Whole grain pasta


2. Vegetables - The choice can be any type

3. Protein

Beans - different varieties

Protein such as chicken, tuna, or your choice

4. Sauce - optional

5. Other foods to add flavor such as fruit, toasted sesame seeds, or pumpkin seeds


Back to the Easy Brown Rice Vegetable Bowl


Ingredients:

  • 2 cups cooked brown rice

  • 2 (12 ounce package) of frozen vegetables

  • 1 (15 ounce) black beans

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • Other spices/herbs - 1/4 teaspoon - optional

Directions:

  1. Cook frozen vegetables in the microwave according to package directions.

  2. Drain excess liquid from vegetables

  3. Rinse and drain beans.

  4. Cook brown rice according to directions

  5. Add vegetables, beans, rice, oil, salt together in bowl and stir until mixed.

I like the adaptability of the grain protein vegetable bowl.
