Breakfast is one of the most important meals of the whole day
I always heard that breakfast was one of the most important meals of the day. As a child, I never could figure that out. I always thought breakfast came to early in the morning. It would interrupt the sleep that I loved to get in the morning until the very last moment before I had to get up. Yet, my mom always insisted that I eat breakfast. She would tell me it is good for me.
Come to find out that she was right.
Why breakfast is good for you (and me)
Breakfast helps improve concentration
This makes sense. All you are doing is fueling your body, which after a night's sleep, needs this fuel.
Simple way to think about this
Let's say your car's fuel gauge was on E or Empty. What would you do?
Most people look at me and say, don't be silly. I would go and put gas in so I wouldn't run out of fuel.
No gas means your car will soon be sitting by the side of the road and will not work. It doesn't matter that all other parts of the machine are working perfectly.
Same for your body. It needs fuel to work efficiently. So eating a breakfast meal means you are fueling your body. Muscles work better. Your brain will work better, and you are primed and ready for the day.
Eating breakfast helps a person lose weight better
Another reason to eat breakfast is that eating this meal helps to increase a person's metabolism. This means it can help a person lose weight better.
Composition of the meal may matter too.
Add in a protein serving as part of your breakfast food choice. Of the three food types, carbohydrate, protein, and fats, protein tends to increase metabolism the most.

1 small banana, 1 cup lowfat yogurt, and 1 slice of toast with a tsp of margarine

1 mozzarella cheese stick, 1/2 bagel, 1 1/4 cup whole strawberries
